Butcher Shop Live

This was a really fun experiential performance event that I was involved in. I played the part of Johnny Coates, the boss of a Butcher shop. It was for the launch of Amazon Primes show "The Boys" which was an adaptation of the graphic novel by Garth Ennis. Punters would come in one door order a sandwich experience our rather brash and rude super hero hating language then walk out back. In the back go the shop we had a super hero called Translucent locked in a cage. He is invisible which made having someone locked up for the two days possible. The last thing we did to shut down the event on the Sunday night was stage a live Twitch feed as Translucent breaks out of his cage fights with us and then rather dramatically is killed in a very explosive way. Needless to say I was washing the blood out of my hair for quite some time and had some funny looks on the way home.

Above you can see the producers and crew working to make the shop as realistic as possible.

Below is a picture is a rare picture of the Superhero Translucent locked inside a cage. He is invisible so you might not be able to see him. The cage is rigged up to the grid so the electricity keeps him in check.

The cage gave quite a few people quite a shock as they walked past in the semi darkness. One of the crew sat for two days queueing an audio track to go with the random electric shock voltage arc on the cage. Respect to that guy. 16 hours plus of hitting a drum pad.

Below are a couple of shots of the other actors behind the counter with our first customers.

Large Marge (Cammie Middleton) and me in character improvising for 8 hours a day.

Dee Dee Deveaux and Bruno giving the customers some deserved abuse. Great fun to insult members of the public all day.

The last thing we did to close the event was to blow up Translucent and to achieve this we had 5 blood cannons aimed at me as I came through the door screaming at Pete to activate the detonator. The punters who were in total shock at the noise and Bruno coming out with blood all over him and were all very confused as to what they had seen.

One of the scales with our rubbery meat got pretty covered as was I as you can see.
